Black Girls: Code Building Andriod Apps Workshop

Yesterday, I had the honor of participating in a wonderful event alongside Black Girls Code. I was tasked with teaching a group of girls how to develop Android applications. Held at Gracie Mansion, the event was graced by the presence of Chairlane McCray, the wife of Mayor Bill de Blasio (pictured at the center of the image). These girls, who come from homeless backgrounds and reside in group homes across the city, showed immense enthusiasm for learning about what they are capable of creating with technology, which was truly wonderful to see.

Though I only imparted them with a few nuggets of information, the experience of aiding them felt incredibly rewarding. Their eagerness to delve deeper into technology showcased their immense potential. Given a more stable home life and the opportunity to thrive, these girls can achieve wonderful things in their young lives. Generously, Google provided them with new Chromebook laptops, while T-Mobile furnished them with WiFi hotspot devices complete with six months of service – a gesture that was greatly appreciated by these young ladies.

It’s possible that you might catch a glimpse of me in the newspapers or on NY1, as the event was filmed by several local stations.

All in all, it was a truly memorable day!.
